Tyrogue evolves at level 20 into Hitmonlee if its Attack exceeds its Defense, Hitmonchan if its Defense exceeds its Attack, or Hitmontop if the two are equal, making it the only Pokémon whose evolution is determined by stats. It is also a male-only, baby Pokémon with all stats equal, and it has the lowest base stat total of all Fighting types.
Tyrogue debuted in A Tyrogue Full of Trouble, abandoned by its previous trainer and leading a gang of Mankey and Primeape that stole from travelers, until a Black Belt named Kiyo helped it trust humans again and took it on as one of his Pokémon.
Tyrogue's earliest card appeared in Neo Discovery illustrated by Miki Tanaka, followed by an Aquapolis Uncommon, an Unseen Forces Rare, and a Legends Awakened Common. HeartGold SoulSilver and Call of Legends each added a Rare, Unbroken Bonds contributed an Uncommon, and the Mega Evolution era's dedicated Mega Evolution set closed with a Common by OKUBO.
