Plasma Storm is the Black & White era expansion that leads with Lugia-EX, Charizard and Blastoise at the top of its card list. It was released on February 6, 2013 under the set code PLS, with 135 official cards and 3 secret cards above that count, for 138 printings in all. Several names appear more than once in the set, among them Trubbish, Articuno-EX, Cobalion-EX and Colress, so the card list carries multiple versions of a few Pokémon and Trainers. It leans on Colorless, Water, Psychic and Grass types, and its Plasma Gale cards arrived in Japan first.
Plasma Storm splits its rarities into a large base of Rare, Uncommon and Common cards and a small chase tier of 8 cards, made up of 5 Ultra Rares and 3 Secret Rares that are numbered past the printed 135. The most valuable cards are Lugia-EX in Ultra Rare, then the Secret Rare Charizard and Blastoise, both illustrated by Ayaka Yoshida, followed by Articuno-EX and Victini-EX. Toyste Beach illustrated Lugia-EX and Articuno-EX. The top five cards alone hold 86 percent of the set's total card value, so nearly everything else in the set carries little weight.
As of October 2026, Plasma Storm holds the 2nd highest total card value of the 12 comparable Black & White sets, about 1.8 times the era median, and its Lugia-EX ranks 1st among the era's single most valuable cards. It also ranks 2nd in the era for trading activity and 24th across the whole game by total card value. At 135 official cards it runs larger than the era median of 111. It followed Boundaries Crossed, which holds less total value, and came before Plasma Freeze, which holds more. Its cards first appeared in Japan in BW7: Plasma Gale, released September 14, 2012, with 68 cards shared.

The full run of Plasma Storm is 138 printings, 134 of them priced. With 86 percent of total card value sitting in five cards, the cost of a complete set is driven by a handful of Ultra Rare and Secret Rare pulls, while the commons, uncommons and most rares fill in cheaply. The sealed line for Plasma Storm lists 5 products, covering a booster box, booster packs and blisters, which gives collectors a way to open the set rather than buy singles.
