Gengar ex and Charizard ex lead FireRed & LeafGreen, an expansion in the EX series and the EX era of the English-language Pokémon TCG. It released on September 1, 2004 under the set code RG, with 112 official cards plus 4 secret cards, for 116 catalog printings in all. The set revisits the Kanto starters and their evolutions, and Charmander, Bulbasaur and Squirtle each carry multiple printings, as does Mr. Mime ex. Colorless, Grass, Water and Psychic are the types it leans on most.
FireRed & LeafGreen builds its rarity ladder from commons and uncommons up to rares, with 4 secret cards numbered above the printed 112. The most valuable cards are Gengar ex, Charizard ex, Venusaur ex, Blastoise ex and Articuno ex, all listed as rares, with illustration credits going to Mitsuhiro Arita, Hiromichi Sugiyama, Ryo Ueda and Hikaru Koike. Value is heavily front-loaded, since the top five cards hold 64 percent of the set's total card value. The set's most valuable cards are mostly the Kanto ex Pokémon.
As of October 2026, FireRed & LeafGreen holds the 9th highest total card value of the 16 comparable EX sets, about equal to the era median, and its Gengar ex also ranks 9th among the era's single most valuable cards. It ranks 8th for trading activity in the era and 21st for total card value across the whole game. At 112 printed cards it sits about level with the era median of 107. It followed Hidden Legends, which holds less total value, and came before Team Rocket Returns, which holds more. Its cards first appeared in Flight of Legends, released April 9, 2004.

A complete FireRed & LeafGreen run is 116 catalog printings, and all 116 are priced. Because the top five cards hold 64 percent of the set's total card value, the cost of finishing the set is driven by a small group of ex cards while the commons and uncommons make up the bulk of the checklist. Sealed product for the set includes a booster box, booster packs, a blister and a deck. Collectors working toward a master set will also want the 4 secret cards and the multiple printings of the Kanto starters.
