Obsidian Flames is an expansion in the Scarlet & Violet era and series of the English-language Pokémon TCG, with the set code OBF. It lists 197 official cards plus 33 secret cards above that count, for 230 printings in all. The release date was August 11, 2023. Charizard ex defines the card list: it appears in four printings, and it also supplies the top three-ranked chase cards in the set. Lechonk also turns up four times, while Bellibolt, Eiscue ex and Geeta each have three. The set leans on Colorless, Grass, Psychic and Fighting Pokémon.
The pull ladder in Obsidian Flames runs from commons and uncommons up through 54 chase-tier cards, with the secret cards numbered beyond the printed 197. Charizard ex leads in its special illustration rare form by AKIRA EGAWA, followed by the hyper rare Charizard ex, then the Ninetales illustration rare by SIE NANAHARA, the Cleffa illustration rare and the ultra rare Charizard ex. 5ban Graphics has the most cards in the set at 16. The top five cards hold 51 percent of the set's total card value, so a few Charizard ex printings and illustration rares carry most of what collectors open it for.
As of October 2026, Obsidian Flames holds the 15th highest total card value of the 16 comparable Scarlet & Violet sets, about 0.4 times the era median. Its most valuable card ranks 14th in the era and its trading activity ranks 12th. Across the whole game it sits 120th of 130 by total card value. At 197 official cards it runs larger than the era median of 164. Paldea Evolved came before it and holds more total value, and 151 came after and also holds more. Its cards first appeared in Japanese in SV3: Ruler of the Black Flame and SV: ex Start Decks.
