Silcoon conserves energy by moving as little as possible in the forests where it lives, using energy gathered as a Wurmple to fuel its evolution into Beautifly at level 10. Its cocoon of white silk, attached to tree branches, hardens to repel enemy attacks, and dew and rainwater collecting on the silk nourish it while its red eyes stay alert for danger. Silcoon shares its Cocoon Pokémon category with Metapod, Kakuna, and Cascoon, all tied for the lowest base stat total among evolved Pokémon.
Silcoon debuted in A Corphish out of Water, where May's Wurmple evolved into one alongside Jessie's Wurmple, which became a Cascoon instead. Both evolved again in Seeing is Believing, with Silcoon becoming Beautifly, and in Goodbye, Friend! Ash and Goh witnessed multiple Silcoon evolving into Beautifly.
Silcoon's first card was an Uncommon in Ruby & Sapphire illustrated by Hajime Kusajima, followed by further Uncommons through Deoxys, Diamond & Pearl, Platinum, and Roaring Skies. Lost Origin brought a later Uncommon by Kagemaru Himeno, and the Mega Evolution era added a Common in Ascended Heroes illustrated by Eri Yamaki.
