Quilladin is a bipedal, mammalian Pokémon whose body is mostly covered by a green, chestnut-like armored shell, leaving its dark brown face, lower body, and legs visible. It has ear-like spikes with reddish tips on either side of its head and a reddish-tipped tail. Quilladin is not aggressive and never starts fights. It evolves from Chespin at level 16 and into Chesnaught at level 36.
Quilladin physically appeared in Love Strikes! Eevee, Yikes!, where it developed a crush on Serena's Eevee before being rejected, then tried its luck with a wild Flareon with no success.
Quilladin seems to combine a hedgehog with a chestnut, possibly with nods to armored mammals such as pangolins, armadillos, and glyptodonts. Its round, bulky build may reference the husk that protects a chestnut, and its name may join quill and paladin.
Quilladin's earliest card was a Kalos Starter Set card illustrated by 5ban Graphics, who also illustrated its XY base set Uncommon. BREAKthrough followed with an Uncommon illustrated by Miki Tanaka, and the Mega Evolution era's Chaos Rising later added a Common illustrated by Hideki Ishikawa.
