Machop is a pure Fighting type that evolves into Machoke at level 28, and Machoke becomes Machamp when traded, one of the original trade evolutions; Pokémon Legends: Arceus added the Linking Cord item as an alternative. Machop's whole body is muscle that never tires or cramps, and it trains by lifting boulders and even Graveler like barbells. In Generation II, Vital Throw was its signature move.
Its standard abilities are Guts, which raises its Attack while it has a status condition, and No Guard, which makes every move in the battle hit, its own and its opponent's; its hidden ability, Steadfast, raises its Speed each time it flinches. In the anime, Dewford Gym Leader Brawly used a Machop against Ash in both of their Gym battles.
Machop's first card is Base Set #52 from 1999, illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita, whose art returned in Base Set 2 and whose later Evolutions card makes three Arita Machop credits. Ken Sugimori drew four, the most of any artist in our catalog, including Team Rocket's Machop, its Legendary Collection reprint and Gym Challenge's Giovanni's Machop, one of the Team Rocket boss's Pokémon in that set.
From there Machop has been a Common in nearly every era: Neo Destiny, then Expedition Base Set and Skyridge in the e-Card years, Hidden Legends and Power Keepers in the EX era, Furious Fists in XY, and 151 in Scarlet & Violet, which gave it new art by Ryuta Fuse. The only printings that are not Commons are two promotional cards with no rarity mark (a DP Trainer Kit and McDonald's Collection 2018), so no Machop sits above Common in our catalog.
