Alakazam is the final stage of the Abra line from Generation I. Abra evolves into Kadabra at level 16, and Kadabra becomes Alakazam only when traded. Its standard abilities are Synchronize and Inner Focus, and its hidden ability, Magic Guard, means it takes damage only from direct attacks. Mega Alakazam keeps the pure Psychic typing.
In the games Alakazam is the signature Pokémon of Sabrina, Saffron City's Psychic-type Gym Leader, whose highest-level Pokémon in Red and Blue is a level 43 Alakazam. The main anime gave Sabrina a Kadabra instead; her Alakazam turns up in Pokémon Origins and the Pokémon Adventures manga. Alakazam is also often paired with Gengar, another trade evolution with a Mega Evolution: since Generation VI the two share the same height and the same base stat total.
Alakazam holds the first number in the original Base Set (1999), a holo illustrated by Ken Sugimori. Our catalog lists 31 Alakazam printings across 20 sets, and the WOTC era supplied 10 of them, including Dark Alakazam in Team Rocket (2000) and Sabrina's Alakazam in Gym Challenge (2000), both also by Sugimori.
Crystal Guardians (2006) printed Alakazam ★, a Gold Star card, and Rising Rivals (2009) added Alakazam E4 LV.X, one of the Elite Four cards of the Diamond & Pearl era. Fates Collide (2016) brought Alakazam EX up to a Secret Rare, Silver Tempest (2022) printed a Radiant Alakazam, and 151 (2023) gave Alakazam ex a special illustration rare by Shinya Komatsu. Paldean Fates (2024) followed with a separate Shiny Ultra Rare Alakazam ex showing it in its shiny colors.

Ranked by each card’s main print in near-mint raw condition. 1st Edition, Shadowless and other versions are priced on each card’s page. The table updates live.
The leaders among the most valuable Alakazam cards come from two ends of the hobby's timeline: WOTC-era cards share the top ten evenly with modern ones. The most valuable Alakazam card is the Skyridge holo rare from 2003, and all 31 Alakazam cards carry a market value, spanning 1999 to 2025. The ten leading cards hold 88 percent of the total value, so Alakazam card value rests on a short list of prints.
Skyridge's Alakazam holo rare from 2003 leads Alakazam card value by 1.3 times over the next card, the Alakazam ☆ holo rare from Crystal Guardians in 2006. Third is Alakazam E4 LV.X from Rising Rivals in 2009, a Rare Holo LV.X. Fourth is the Expedition Base Set holo rare from 2002, and fifth is Dark Alakazam, a Team Rocket holo rare from 2000. A holo is a card with a foil-patterned art window, and the first five are all holos of one kind or another.
WOTC supplies 10 of the 25 leading Alakazam cards, followed by XY with 5, Diamond & Pearl with 3 and Scarlet & Violet with 3. Vintage here means the WOTC era, and modern is every later era. The top ten splits 5 vintage and 5 modern, while the top 25 holds 10 vintage and 15 modern. The newest era's leader is the Mega Evolution Alakazam from MEP Black Star Promos in 2025, which sits 18th overall among Alakazam cards.
Among the ten most valuable Alakazam cards, Holo Rare is the most common printed rarity with 5 cards. The rest are one each of Rare, Rare Holo, Rare Holo LV.X, Secret Rare and Ultra Rare. Widening to the top 25, Holo Rare still leads with 8 cards, followed by 6 Ultra Rare and 3 Rare. Promo has 2 cards, and Rare Holo, Rare Holo LV.X, Secret Rare, Shiny Ultra Rare, Special illustration rare and Uncommon have one apiece.
By the value of its single leading card, Alakazam ranks 32nd of 1020 species with priced cards. By the combined value of its ten leaders it ranks 29th of 753. Within the evolution line, Abra's top card ranks 332nd of 1020 and Kadabra's ranks 392nd, so the line's Alakazam cards carry the value. The market is built on Alakazam's own top-ten cards rather than on its pre-evolutions.
