Machoke is a pure Fighting type that evolves from Machop at level 28. Its final step to Machamp happens when it is traded, one of the four trade evolutions in Red and Blue alongside Kadabra, Graveler and Haunter. Pokémon Legends: Arceus added the Linking Cord, an item that triggers the same evolution without a trade. Its standard abilities are Guts and No Guard, its hidden ability is Steadfast, and it stands 1.5 meters tall at 70.5 kilograms.
Machoke's first card is Base Set #34 (1999), illustrated by Ken Sugimori, who is credited on six Machoke printings, more than any other artist. Team Rocket (2000) printed Dark Machoke by Mitsuhiro Arita, and Gym Challenge (2000) printed Giovanni's Machoke, tying it to the Team Rocket boss in his role as Viridian City Gym Leader. Neo Destiny followed with Light Machoke, the kinder counterpart to its Dark version.
Of the 26 Machoke printings in our catalog, 24 are Uncommon. The exception that stands out is 151 (2023), the Scarlet & Violet set built around the original Kanto Pokédex, which printed a standard Uncommon Machoke and an Illustration rare by Tetsu Kayama, the standout premium printing in a line of Uncommons.
