Larvitar

Larvitar in the anime: the Egg Ash returned to Mt. Silver

In the Johto arc, Ash received an Egg in Lapras of Luxury that hatched into Larvitar in Hatch Me if You Can. The Larvitar was painfully shy with people, and in Address Unown! an Unown's power showed Ash and his friends why: poachers had stolen it as an Egg and attacked its mother, a Tyranitar. In Mother of All Battles! Ash reunited Larvitar with its mother on Mt. Silver and left it there, so it never stayed on his team.

Larvitar on cards: Neo Discovery, Delta Species and an illustration rare

Larvitar's first English card is Neo Discovery #57 from June 2001, illustrated by Hironobu Yoshida, followed by a Ken Sugimori Larvitar in Neo Destiny. The EX era printed it more than any other, eight times, including two Delta Species cards that gave it types it never has in the games: a Fire type Larvitar δ in Delta Species and a Lightning type Larvitar δ in Dragon Frontiers.

Almost all of its cards are commons. The exception is Obsidian Flames (2023), where Miki Tanaka's Larvitar is an illustration rare numbered past the main set. Destined Rivals (2025) added Team Rocket's Larvitar, one of that set's Team Rocket's Pokémon cards.
