Budew is a bipedal, rosebud-like Pokémon with a yellow face, a green bib-like body, and two head vines that open to reveal a blue spot and a red spot. It evolves into Roselia when leveled up with high friendship during the day, and Roselia later evolves into Roserade with a Shiny Stone. Budew keeps its buds closed through winter and opens them again in spring, releasing pollen that induces sneezing and runny noses, with its opening bud seen as a sign spring has arrived.
Nando's Budew evolved into Roselia during a battle against Ash's Pikachu, and had evolved further into Roserade by Coming Full-Festival Circle!. Forsythia's Roserade was also shown as a Budew in an earlier flashback.
Budew debuted in Diamond and Pearl as an uncommon by Ken Sugimori, followed by a Stormfront uncommon from Yuka Morii. Prismatic Evolutions added a Yoriyuki Ikegami common, and the Mega Evolution era's Ascended Heroes brought another Ikegami common alongside an illustration rare by Yoko Hishida.
