Brock runs the Pewter Gym, the first Gym the player challenges in Pokémon Red, Blue, Yellow, FireRed and LeafGreen. He uses Rock-type Pokémon and awards the Boulder Badge. In Red and Blue his team is just Geodude and Onix, with Onix, his signature Pokémon, held back as his second and stronger battler; in the Pokémon World Tournament of Black 2 and White 2 he opens with it.
In the anime Brock is the eldest of ten children. With his father Flint gone, he ran the Pewter Gym while raising his nine younger siblings. After he awards Ash the Boulder Badge in Showdown in Pewter City, Flint reveals himself and takes over the Gym and the family, leaving Brock free to pursue his real goal of becoming a great Pokémon Breeder.
Brock travels with Ash through Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh, sitting out the Orange Islands to work for Professor Ivy. Near the end of the Sinnoh journey he settles on a new ambition, becoming a Pokémon Doctor. His Onix was his first Pokémon, a tenth-birthday gift from Flint.
The Gym series gave Brock a large roster of Owner's Pokémon. Rock and Ground types make up most of it (Onix, Geodude, Graveler, Golem, Rhyhorn, Rhydon, Sandshrew, Sandslash, Diglett and Dugtrio), joined by Vulpix, Ninetales, Zubat, Golbat, Lickitung, Mankey and Primeape. Several of those match his anime team, which included Onix, Geodude, Zubat and a Vulpix he looked after.
Brock's English cards begin with Gym Heroes (August 14, 2000) and Gym Challenge (October 16, 2000). Gym Heroes introduced Owner's Pokémon, cards such as Brock's Onix that carry the Trainer's name, with a small headshot of the Leader over his Gym Badge in the bottom-right corner. Brock appears in both sets, as do Misty, Erika, Lt. Surge, Sabrina and Blaine. His own Trainer card, Brock, is a Gym Heroes holo (#15), and the Trainer cards Brock's Training Method (Gym Heroes) and Brock's Protection (Gym Challenge) round out the era.
His modern cards are Supporters. Brock's Grit appeared in Evolutions (2016), Team Up (2019) and Hidden Fates (2019), with full-art Ultra Rare versions in Evolutions and Team Up; Hidden Fates also printed the Brock's Training Supporter and the Brock's Pewter City Gym Stadium. Brock's Scouting followed in Journey Together (2025) as an Uncommon and a full-art Ultra Rare. No new Brock's Pokémon cards have been printed since the Gym series.
The vintage core is the Gym-era holos: the Brock Trainer card and Brock's Rhydon from Gym Heroes, and Brock's Ninetales from Gym Challenge. Brock's Onix, his signature Pokémon, is a non-holo Rare in Gym Heroes (#21). On the modern side, the full-art Ultra Rares of Brock's Grit and Brock's Scouting are the highest-rarity versions of his Supporter cards.
