Mankey is a pure Fighting type that evolves into Primeape at level 28. For more than two decades Primeape was the end of the line, until Pokémon Scarlet and Violet gave it Annihilape, a Fighting and Ghost type it becomes by leveling up after using the move Rage Fist 20 times. Mankey's standard abilities are Vital Spirit, which prevents sleep, and Anger Point, which maxes out its Attack when it takes a critical hit; its hidden ability, Defiant, sharply raises Attack whenever an opponent lowers one of its stats.
In "Primeape Goes Bananas," a wild Mankey ate some of Brock's food, dodged Ash's attempt to catch it, beat him up and stole his hat. When James kicked it out of the way during a Team Rocket scheme, it grew so angry it evolved into Primeape and rampaged through everyone until Ash's Charmander defeated it and Ash caught it. A few episodes later, in "The Punchy Pokémon," Primeape won the P1 Grand Prix for Fighting types, and Ash left it with its trainer Anthony, making it the one Pokémon he gave away for training that never rejoined him.
Mankey's first card is Jungle #55 from 1999, a Common illustrated by Kagemaru Himeno, and Team Rocket followed in 2000. The Gym sets printed Brock's Mankey twice in Gym Heroes (by Atsuko Nishida and Ken Sugimori) and Blaine's Mankey in Gym Challenge. FireRed & LeafGreen's 2004 card by Miki Tanaka is its only Uncommon, and Holon Phantoms' Mankey δ, one of the EX era's Delta Species cards, is printed as a Fire type rather than Fighting.
Almost everything since has been a Common, including cards in the Scarlet & Violet base set, 151 and Pitch Black. The exception is Paldean Fates' Shiny rare #169 by nagimiso, the only Mankey above Uncommon in our catalog.
