Tynamo is a pure Electric type whose electric organ fires when it is in danger; one alone is weak, but a school of Tynamo together can deliver a jolt on the scale of lightning. It evolves into Eelektrik at level 39, which evolves into Eelektross with a Thunder Stone. Merchandise artwork and several TCG illustrations depict Tynamo swimming in or leaping out of bodies of water.
Tynamo and its evolved forms were designed by Yusuke Ohmura and are notable as the only Pokémon line with no type weaknesses under normal battle conditions, as well as the lightest Electric type alongside Rotom. They are based on eels, particularly the electric eel, with Tynamo itself designed to resemble the larval leptocephalus stage. Before Generation IX, Tynamo could not damage Ground/Ghost dual-type Pokémon, and its line is the only one included in all four Generation IX Pokédexes.
A female Tynamo made her animated series entrance in Dazzling the Nimbasa Gym!, where Elesa, who calls her the Electric Queen, used her as her last Pokémon against Ash; she battled Pikachu before losing to a Thunderbolt and Iron Tail combination. She reappeared in a flashback in Curtain Up, Unova League!.
Tynamo was introduced with two Noble Victories commons in the Black & White era, followed by Dark Explorers and Plasma Blast printings, then a single Primal Clash common in the XY era.
The Sun & Moon era added Burning Shadows and two Unified Minds commons, and the Sword & Shield era carried Vivid Voltage, Fusion Strike, a 2022 McDonald's promo, and Lost Origin.
The Scarlet & Violet era brought an Obsidian Flames common and a Black Bolt common and illustration rare pairing, and the Mega Evolution era continued with an Ascended Heroes common; Jerky illustrated both the Black Bolt and Ascended Heroes commons.

Ranked by each card’s main print in near-mint raw condition. 1st Edition, Shadowless and other versions are priced on each card’s page. The table updates live.
The most valuable Tynamo card is the Illustration rare from Black Bolt, released in 2025. All 17 Tynamo cards carry a market value, and the ten leading cards hold 95 percent of the total, so Tynamo card value sits almost entirely in a short list of prints. The priced cards span 2011 to 2026, and the Black Bolt card sets the top of the most valuable Tynamo cards ranking.
The Black Bolt Illustration rare leads Tynamo card value by 32.9 times over the next card, a Common from Burning Shadows in 2017. Third is a Dark Explorers Common from 2012, and fourth is the Tynamo from McDonald's Collection 2022. An Illustration rare is a full-art card where the artwork runs across the whole card face, while a Common is the base rarity of a set.
Black & White supplies five of the twenty-five leading Tynamo cards, the most of any era, followed by Sword & Shield with four, and Sun & Moon and Scarlet & Violet with three each. The newest era's leader is the Ascended Heroes Tynamo from 2026, at 15th overall. Vintage here means the WOTC era; all ten of the top ten and all seventeen of the twenty-five leading Tynamo cards are modern.
Among the ten leading Tynamo cards, eight are Commons and one is an Illustration rare. Widening to the leading twenty-five, fifteen are Commons and one is an Illustration rare. The Tynamo cards that lead the market are mostly Commons from Black & White onward, with a single Illustration rare at the very top.
By the value of its single leading card, Tynamo ranks 582nd of 1020 species with priced cards. By the combined value of its ten leaders it ranks 603rd of 753. Within its evolution line, Eelektross ranks 507th of 1020 and Eelektrik 532nd by their leading cards. Across the line the market is thin at the top: the leading Tynamo card stands well apart from the rest of the Tynamo cards, and the evolutions sit in a similar range.
