Totodile is a Water type from the second generation and one of the three first partners Professor Elm offers in New Bark Town in Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver, alongside Chikorita and Cyndaquil. Pokémon Legends: Z-A made it a starter again, this time with Chikorita and Tepig in Lumiose City.
It is 0.6 meters tall and weighs 9.5 kilograms, evolving into Croconaw at level 18 and Feraligatr at level 30. Torrent powers up its Water moves when its HP is low, and its hidden ability is Sheer Force.
In The Totodile Duel, Ash and Misty both threw Lure Balls at the same Totodile, and Brock settled the dispute with a battle that Ash won. Totodile's trademark was dancing whenever it came out of its ball, even at the start of serious matches, which regularly exasperated Ash and baffled opponents.
Its best moment came at the Silver Conference in Playing with Fire!, where it clamped onto the arm of Harrison's Sneasel to block a Metal Claw and knocked it out, before losing to Harrison's Hypno. Ash left it at Professor Oak's lab with his other Johto Pokémon when he set out for Hoenn, and it rejoined his team late in Pokémon Journeys.
Totodile's first cards are two Neo Genesis Commons from December 2000, #80 by Ken Sugimori and #81 by Hironobu Yoshida. Neo Destiny and Expedition followed, and Dragon Frontiers (2006) printed a Lightning-type Totodile δ as part of that set's Delta Species lineup.
The HeartGold SoulSilver era returned it to its home region with a main-set Common by kawayoo in 2010 plus two cards in the Gyarados half of the HS Trainer Kit. It has also appeared in a McDonald's Collection and as a Black Star promo, and the Mega Evolution era's Ascended Heroes (2026) printed it as a Common by REND. Nearly every printing is a Common; Kagemaru Himeno and kawayoo have the most credits on it, with three each.
One of Totodile's two first cards, a 2000 Common illustrated by Ken Sugimori.
Its Delta Species card from 2006, illustrated by Hisao Nakamura.
A 2010 Common by kawayoo from the set that revisited Johto.
A Mega Evolution era promo illustrated by Saboteri.
A 2026 Common illustrated by REND.
Totodile debuted in Neo Genesis (December 2000) with two Commons, #80 by Ken Sugimori and #81 by Hironobu Yoshida.
Dancing is its personality in the anime: it celebrates whenever it leaves its Lure Ball, even right before a battle.
Totodile evolves into Croconaw at level 18, then into Feraligatr at level 30.
Our catalog lists 23 Totodile printings across 20 sets, nearly all Commons.

Ranked by each card’s main print in near-mint raw condition. 1st Edition, Shadowless and other versions are priced on each card’s page. The table updates live.
The cards of Totodile come from a spread of eras, with the leaders reaching from Expedition Base Set in 2002 to MEP Black Star Promos in 2025. The most valuable Totodile card is the McDonald's Collection 2016 entry, and every one of the 23 Totodile cards carries a market value. The ten leading cards hold 96 percent of the total value, so Totodile card value rests almost entirely on a small group of prints.
The McDonald's Collection 2016 card leads the most valuable Totodile cards by 4.5 times over the next card. Behind it come two Common prints from Expedition Base Set in 2002, then two copies from the HS trainer Kit (Gyarados) in 2010. The MEP Black Star Promos card from 2025 follows in 6th. Of these, the Expedition Base Set pair are Commons, the kit cards are trainer kit issues, and the MEP card is a Promo.
Totodile cards in the top twenty-five are led by the WOTC era with 5, followed by HeartGold & SoulSilver with 4, EX with 3, and Diamond & Pearl, XY, Sun & Moon, Sword & Shield and Mega Evolution with 2 each. The newest era's leader is the MEP Black Star Promos card from 2025, which sits 6th overall. Vintage means the WOTC era, and the top ten holds 3 vintage and 7 modern cards, while the top twenty-five holds 5 vintage and 18 modern.
Among the ten leading Totodile cards, 5 are printed as Common and 1 as a Promo. Widening to the top twenty-five, 17 are Common and 1 is a Promo. The leaders include the Totodile δ from Dragon Frontiers in 2006 and the HeartGold SoulSilver Common from 2010, both listed as Common.
Ranked by its single leading card, Totodile places 176th of 1020 species with priced cards. By the combined value of its ten leaders it places 215th of 753. In its evolution line, Feraligatr is 121st of 1020 by top card and Croconaw 661st. Totodile's card market is therefore built on a concentrated handful of leading prints, and its line members sit on either side of it by top card.
