Swirlix eats only sweets, making its fur as sticky as cotton candy, and can entangle opponents with sticky white thread; the sugar it consumes equals its own weight. It can be seen as a parallel to Spritzee: both are Generation VI Fairy types split across versions, both had former signature Abilities that help their allies, and both evolve when traded holding an item.
Five wild Swirlix attacked Serena and Fennekin in A Battle by Any Other Name!, believing they had stolen the forest's Berries, until Team Rocket was revealed as the true culprit. Raleigh's Swirlix appeared in a flashback in the film Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel, having evolved into a Slurpuff before the film's events.
Swirlix's first card was a 2013 Kalos Starter Set printing illustrated by 5ban Graphics, followed by a 2014 XY Common, also by 5ban Graphics. A McDonald's Collection 2014 card and XY Trainer Kit cards followed, and the Mega Evolution era's Ascended Heroes added a Common by Saya Tsuruta in 2026.
