Rapidash evolves from Ponyta at level 40 and gains a pointed horn on its forehead, keeping the flaming mane and tail. It stands 1.7 meters tall and weighs 95 kilograms. Its regular abilities are Run Away, which guarantees an escape from wild battles, and Flash Fire, which makes it immune to Fire moves and powers up its own Fire moves after it is hit by one; its hidden ability, Flame Body, can burn an attacker on contact.
Pokémon Sword and Shield gave Ponyta and Rapidash a Galarian form with a white coat, a pastel mane and a long spiraled horn. Galarian Rapidash drops Fire entirely for Psychic and Fairy and is categorized as the Unique Horn Pokémon. Its abilities are Run Away or Pastel Veil, with Anticipation as its hidden ability, and Pastel Veil belongs to Galarian Ponyta and Galarian Rapidash alone. In the wild it appears only in Pokémon Shield.
Rapidash's first card is Jungle #44 from June 1999, an Uncommon illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita, who also drew its Wizards Black Star Promo. Expedition Base Set printed it twice in 2002, as a Holo Rare and a Rare, both illustrated by Kagemaru Himeno, and Aquapolis added a Rare by Kouki Saitou. FireRed & LeafGreen carried a Ken Sugimori Rare in 2004, and Triumphant gave it a Holo Rare by Kyoko Umemoto in 2010.
Galarian Rapidash debuted on cards in the Sword & Shield base set in 2020. Shining Fates' Shiny Vault then printed it in its shiny colors, drawn by Kagemaru Himeno, and Chilling Reign (2021) carried two Ultra Rare Galarian Rapidash V cards: a full art by Saki Hayashiro and an alternate art by sui. Destined Rivals (2025) returned to the Fire-type form with an Illustration rare by Rond.
Rapidash splits into two collecting lanes: the Fire-type horse that runs from Jungle through the Wizards, EX and later eras, and the Galarian form, whose cards are concentrated in the Sword & Shield years. It is a Pokémon collected across many sets rather than through one headline card.
