Quaquaval

Quaquaval's origins

Quaquaval may be primarily based on a peacock, its water feathers visually and functionally recalling a peacock's train, along with the Iberian red-knobbed coot for its lobed feet and red head ornamentation, and possibly the crested duck or Roman goose, birds long associated with the peacock in ancient Rome. Its name may combine Spanish and Portuguese duck-sound onomatopoeia with aqua and carnaval, also echoing quaquaversal, a term for patterns radiating from a common center.
