Mr. Mime evolves from Mime Jr. when Mime Jr. levels up while knowing the move Mimic. It is a Psychic and Fairy type, with Soundproof or Filter as its ability and Technician as its hidden ability. Its category, the Barrier Pokémon, reflects its trademark act of miming invisible walls.
Pokémon Sword and Shield added Galarian Mr. Mime, an Ice and Psychic type that, unlike the original, evolves further: it becomes Mr. Rime at level 42. The Kanto Mr. Mime has no evolution.
Mr. Mime is also a Gym Leader's Pokémon. Sabrina of Saffron City fields it alongside Kadabra, Venomoth and Alakazam in Pokémon Red and Blue (and again in FireRed and LeafGreen), and it stays on her team in Gold, Silver and Crystal.
In the anime, Mimey debuted in "It's Mr. Mime Time". A wild Mr. Mime turned up at Delia Ketchum's door while Ash was out dressed as one for a circus scheme, and Delia fed it thinking it was her son in costume. After it helped her stop Team Rocket at the circus she adopted it, and it has lived in Pallet Town ever since, sweeping the house, welcoming Ash home and traveling with Delia to Alola in Sun & Moon.
Mr. Mime debuted in Jungle in 1999 as both a holo and a non-holo rare, drawn by Ken Sugimori, who also illustrated Sabrina's Mr. Mime in Gym Heroes and Gym Challenge (2000). The EX era gave it Mr. Mime ex in FireRed & LeafGreen (2004), and Platinum-era Rising Rivals (2009) printed Mr. Mime E4, one of the Elite Four's Pokémon cards.
Celestial Storm (2018) brought Mr. Mime GX, with a secret rare version, and the 2019 Detective Pikachu set used imagery from the live-action film, credited to MPC Film. The Galarian form has appeared since Rebel Clash (2020), including a shiny card in the Shining Fates Shiny Vault. 151 (2023) gave the original an illustration rare by OKACHEKE. Ken Sugimori has the most Mr. Mime credits in our catalog (5), followed by 5ban Graphics (4).

A Gym-era card that ties Mr. Mime to Sabrina, the Saffron City Gym Leader.
The secret rare version of Mr. Mime GX, illustrated by 5ban Graphics.

Mr. Mime's first cards appeared in the Jungle set in 1999, a holo and a non-holo rare, both illustrated by Ken Sugimori.
Our catalog lists 36 Mr. Mime printings across 29 sets as of 2026-09-26.
Mimey is the Mr. Mime adopted by Delia Ketchum, Ash's mother, after it showed up at her door in "It's Mr. Mime Time". It lives with her in Pallet Town and helps around the house.
Only the Galarian form does, at level 42. The original Psychic and Fairy type Mr. Mime has no further evolution.
