Heatran is a Legendary Fire and Steel type that does not evolve. Legend holds that it was born from the magma inside volcanic mountains such as Mount Coronet and Reversal Mountain, and that the Magma Stone can both control it and seal it in its lair; without it, Heatran would rampage and set off its crater. Its cross-shaped claws let it cling to cave walls and ceilings. It stands 1.7 meters tall, weighs 430 kilograms, and is the only Pokémon that learns Magma Storm.
Its standard ability, Flash Fire, absorbs Fire type moves and powers up its own Fire attacks, and its hidden ability is Flame Body. The Mega Dimension expansion for Pokémon Legends: Z-A added Mega Heatran, unlocked with the Heatranite after the player defeats and catches a rogue Mega Heatran.
Heatran debuted in the movie Arceus and the Jewel of Life as a Pokémon controlled by Marcus, and was freed by Pikachu once it stopped fighting for him. The TV special Pokémon Ranger: Heatran Rescue! followed Ranger Ben's mission to capture it and protect it from a collapsing mountain. In The Arceus Chronicles, Team Galactic's Saturn caught a Heatran and used it with a Flame Plate to power a cannon meant to bring back Cyrus, until the machine overloaded and Heatran broke free on a rampage.
Heatran's Diamond & Pearl era cards include a DP Black Star Promo by Shizurow, who also drew Stormfront's Heatran LV.X in 2008, and a holo and a non-holo Heatran in Legends Awakened that same year. Plasma Freeze (2013) added Heatran-EX as a regular card and a full art by 5ban Graphics, and Unified Minds (2019) printed Heatran GX three ways, including a secret rare numbered above the set total.
Astral Radiance (2022) gave Heatran its biggest single set: Heatran V, Heatran VMAX (with a secret rare version) and Radiant Heatran, one of that era's one-per-deck Radiant Pokémon. Later printings include Twilight Masquerade's card by AKIRA EGAWA and Pitch Black's Uncommon in the Mega Evolution era. tetsuya koizumi's three Heatran credits are the most of any artist in our catalog.

Heatran cards draw their value from the modern game, with the Sun & Moon era supplying the most entries among the twenty-five leaders and Diamond & Pearl and Sword & Shield close behind. The most valuable Heatran card is Heatran-EX, an Ultra Rare from Plasma Freeze in 2013. All 28 Heatran cards carry a market value, spanning 2007 to 2026, and the ten leading cards hold 97 percent of the total value, so Heatran card value sits almost entirely in a short list of prints.
Heatran-EX from Plasma Freeze (2013) leads the most valuable Heatran cards by 2.1 times over the next card, the Heatran from Pokémon Rumble (2009). Third is the Heatran from DP Black Star Promos (2007), printed as a Common. Fourth is the Heatran Rare Holo LV.X from Stormfront (2008), a holo with the LV.X mechanic from the Diamond & Pearl era. Fifth is the second Heatran-EX from Plasma Freeze, a Rare print, so both EX cards from that set rank in the top five Heatran cards.
Of the twenty-five leading Heatran cards, 8 come from Sun & Moon, 6 from Diamond & Pearl, 6 from Sword & Shield and 2 from Black & White. All twenty-five are modern and none is vintage, where vintage means the WOTC era and modern is every later era. The same holds in the top ten, with all 10 modern. The newest era's leader is Heatran from Pitch Black (2026) in the Mega Evolution era, which sits 26th overall.
The ten leading Heatran cards cover seven printed rarities: 2 Secret Rare, 2 Ultra Rare, and one each of Common, Promo, Rare, Rare Holo and Rare Holo LV.X. Widening to the top twenty-five, Holo Rare is the most common rarity with 7 cards, followed by 4 Rare and 4 Ultra Rare. Two Secret Rare cards, a Holo Rare V, a Holo Rare VMAX, a Radiant Rare, a Rare Holo, a Rare Holo LV.X, a Promo and a Common complete that group.
By the value of its single leading card, Heatran ranks 131st of 1020 species with priced cards. By the combined value of its ten leaders, it ranks 131st of 753. With 97 percent of the value in ten cards and the top card 2.1 times the second, the Heatran card market is built on a few leading prints rather than a broad base.
