Palkia is a Legendary Water and Dragon type and the mascot of Pokémon Pearl and its remake Shining Pearl, appearing on both games' box art; its counterpart Dialga fronts Diamond. Its standard ability, Pressure, makes opponents spend extra PP against it, and its hidden ability is Telepathy. It stands 4.2 meters tall and weighs 336.0 kilograms. Pokémon Legends: Arceus introduced its Origin Forme, which it takes when holding the Lustrous Globe.
Palkia made its physical debut in "The Rise of Darkrai," battling Dialga and Darkrai in a fight that nearly destroyed Alamos Town. "Arceus and the Jewel of Life" was the first time it appeared with both other members of its trio, as Palkia, Dialga and Giratina joined forces against Arceus. In the Journeys series, "The Gates of Warp!" and "Showdown at the Gates of Warp!" had an alternate-world Team Rocket use a Red Chain to force Palkia and Dialga to fight, creating time distortions that made nearby Pokémon devolve.
Palkia's first English cards came in the Diamond & Pearl era: Black Star Promo DP18 and the Palkia LV.X in Great Encounters (2008), both illustrated by Ryo Ueda. Call of Legends (2011) included a shiny Palkia in its SL subset, and Plasma Blast (2013) gave it a Palkia-EX.
Ultra Prism and Forbidden Light (both 2018) each printed a secret rare Palkia GX, and Cosmic Eclipse (2019) joined it with Arceus and Dialga on the Arceus & Dialga & Palkia GX tag team. Astral Radiance (2022) and Crown Zenith's Galarian Gallery (2023) carried secret rare Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR cards, reflecting its Legends: Arceus form.
Palkia's pairing with Dialga runs through the box art, the films and the cards, down to the Cosmic Eclipse tag team that puts both on one card with Arceus. Its Origin Forme VSTAR cards tie the modern run to Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
