Grubbin is a Generation 7 Bug type that resembles a beetle larva as well as a two-pronged electrical plug, a resemblance reinforced by the Electric typing it gains upon evolving. It lives underground, using its jaw to burrow and to extract tree sap, and shoots sticky threads it uses both to swing around and to snare opponents before grabbing them in its mandibles. It evolves into Charjabug at level 20, which then evolves into Vikavolt in a special magnetic field, or with a Thunder Stone from Generation VIII onward.
A wild Grubbin was chased by Ash underground in Alola to New Adventure, and Grubbin reappeared in a flashback in Loading the Dex. Ash later attempted to catch another wild Grubbin in First Catch in Alola, Ketchum-Style by having Pikachu battle it, but it broke out of the Poké Ball and went underground, then startled Lillie when it popped back up before getting away.
Grubbin debuted as a Common in Sun and Moon illustrated by Akira Komayama, who also painted its SM Trainer Kit and McDonald's Collection 2017 printings. It has continued with Common prints through Unbroken Bonds, Fusion Strike, and Crown Zenith, reaching the Mega Evolution era with Ascended Heroes and Pitch Black.
