Frogadier evolves from Froakie at level 16 and into Greninja at level 36. It is a nimble Pokémon able to scale tall towers quickly and throw bubble-coated pebbles at range, thanks to sticky fingertips and toes that let it cling to vertical surfaces. Frogadier and its evolutionary line are the only Water-type first partner Pokémon line placed solely in the Water 1 Egg Group.
Frogadier is based on a frog, and its crouched pose, dark hooded face, and scarf-like foam suggest a ninja motif as well. The spiked protrusions above its eyes may reference horned frogs of the genera Megophrys and Ceratophrys, while its bubbling white foam recalls the foam nests built by frogs such as the tungara frog to protect their eggs.
Frogadier's first card appeared in the 2013 Kalos Starter Set, followed by an Uncommon in the XY base set. BREAKthrough and BREAKpoint each added Uncommon prints, and two XY Trainer Kit (Suicune) versions followed. Hidden Fates gave Frogadier a Shiny Vault Shiny Rare in 2019. The Scarlet & Violet era added prints across Obsidian Flames, Twilight Masquerade, and Stellar Crown, and the Mega Evolution era's Chaos Rising paired a Common with an Illustration Rare by Susumu Maeya.
