Carbink is a Generation 6 Rock and Fairy type that may be based on the mythical carbuncle as well as carbonate minerals that recrystallize into diamonds under heat and pressure. It is born from high underground temperatures and pressures and can sleep underground for millions of years. It ties with Minior and Dwebble as the shortest Rock type and does not evolve. Despite being catchable in Area Zero's Underdepths, it does not appear in the Paldea Pokédex, though it later joined the Kitakami Pokédex.
Carbink shares the Jewel Pokémon category with the Mythical Diancie, and the two tie for the highest base Defense stat among Fairy types. Its strong link to Diancie is noted as the reason it could be transferred into the original release of Scarlet and Violet, and Carbink appears in the manga Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction.
Carbink debuted as a Rare in Flashfire illustrated by 5ban Graphics, and Fates Collide later gave it a Rare, a Common, and an Ultra Rare BREAK card all illustrated by different artists. The Mega Evolution era added an illustration rare by sui in Ascended Heroes.
