Appletun's body is caked in sweet nectar that attracts Bug-type Pokémon it preys on, though its primary diet is sweet apples. Applin evolves into Appletun when given a Sweet Apple, and can instead become Flapple with a Tart Apple or Dipplin with a Syrupy Apple. Its back has a large hump resembling an apple pie crust with overlapping stripes and a pair of red and green leaves, worn beneath a piece of apple like a helmet. Gigantamax Appletun grows larger and stouter as a giant apple engulfs most of its body, leaving only its head, neck and tail exposed; this form is physically identical to Gigantamax Flapple's even though the two remain distinct species with their own Pokédex entries, G-Max Moves and cries, and Gigantamax Appletun never appeared as a VMAX card.
In The Bittersweet Truth, Mitchell used an Appletun in a Double Battle against Murdock and Liko.
