Hop wants to become Champion like his brother Leon. He starts out with a Wooloo and the starter that is weak to the player's choice, and meets the player repeatedly on the Gym challenge. A crushing loss to Bede and the pressure of living up to Leon shake his confidence, until he recommits with a new team led by his freshly evolved Dubwool. He reaches the Champion Cup, where he loses to the player in the semifinals, and he fights alongside the player against Eternatus.
In the post-game, Hop loses his Rusted Shield or Sword to Sordward and Shielbert, then calms the berserk legendary, which chooses to join him: Zamazenta in Sword, Zacian in Shield. He decides to become a Pokémon Professor and accepts Sonia's offer to be her assistant. His final team is Dubwool, Snorlax, Pincurchin, Corviknight, his starter and that legendary.
