Wo-Chien is a snail-like Pokémon with a dark-green mossy form covered in dead leaves, curling vine eyestalks, and a shell formed from a row of faded wooden writing tablets. Its true form is that shell, given life by the grudges of a person once punished for writing the evil deeds of a king on it, while its body is a construct built from its control over plant matter. Wo-Chien does not evolve, and it is the only member of the treasures of ruin given life by a specific individual's emotion rather than humanity's in general.
Wo-Chien has the highest base Special Defense stat of all Grass-type Pokémon, and is tied with Mega Scrafty for the highest base Special Defense of all Dark-type Pokémon. Its in-game model has 92 tablets in total, all visible at the peak of one of its animations.
Wo-Chien may be modeled after the decollate snail, a predatory land snail native to the Mediterranean with a blunt, conical shell. Its own shell is built from slips, narrow strips of bamboo or wood used as a writing medium in China before paper was introduced.
Wo-Chien debuted with a full ex spread in Paldea Evolved: a Double rare and Ultra Rare both illustrated by 5ban Graphics, and a Special illustration rare by takuyoa. Paradox Rift added a Rare illustrated by Kouki Saitou, Paldean Fates added another Hyper rare ex by 5ban Graphics, and Surging Sparks later added an Uncommon illustrated by danciao.
