Type: Null is a quadrupedal, chimeric Pokémon wearing a heavy brown and green helmet designed to suppress its power, with an axe-like blade extending from the top and a collar of four spiked vanes. It evolves into Silvally once its happiness reaches 160. Type: Null is the only Pokémon with a colon in its English name, and it was the first Pokémon whose Spanish and Italian names differed from its English name.
Type: Null shares several similarities with Mewtwo: both were created by humans using science, based on Mythical Pokémon, intended to be stronger than other Pokémon, and went berserk. It was also the first Legendary Pokémon given as a gift by an NPC, and along with Cosmog and Cosmoem it was one of the first Legendary Pokémon able to evolve, all three debuting in Pokémon Sun and Moon. Its Speed stat is the only one of its base stats not set at 95, sitting instead at 59, a reversal that corrects upon evolving into Silvally.
Type: Null appears to be based on a chimera, and its patchwork design and history may also nod to Frankenstein's monster. Its collar may echo the ring around Arceus, and its English name simply pairs type with null, meaning nothing.
Type: Null's card history opens with a Crimson Invasion Rare illustrated by Hitoshi Ariga, followed by an Ultra Prism Rare by match. Unified Minds and Cosmic Eclipse each added an Uncommon, illustrated by tetsuya koizumi and KEIICHIRO ITO, alongside a Hidden Fates Shiny Vault Shiny rare by Shin Nagasawa. The Mega Evolution era's Pitch Black later added a Common illustrated by Ligton.

A 2026 Mega Evolution era Pitch Black Common illustrated by Ligton.

The helmet is designed to suppress Type: Null's power to stable levels, though it also hinders its agility.
It appears to be based on a chimera, and its stitched-together design and history may also nod to Frankenstein's monster.
