Torterra

Torterra's trivia and origin

Torterra shares its category with Groudon, both known as the Continent Pokémon, and its Speed stat of 56 is the lowest base stat of any fully evolved first partner Pokémon. Its sprite erroneously shows its left side when walking to the right in Amity Square in Pokémon Platinum. Torterra appears to be based on a snapping turtle and an ankylosaur, an armored dinosaur, possibly drawing on the extinct Meiolania and Proganochelys turtles as well as the World Turtle myth found across various mythologies.

Torterra's cards by era

Torterra's first cards came in the 2007 Diamond & Pearl base set, a Rare Holo LV.X and a standard Rare Holo. It also has a DP Black Star Promo by Shizurow. Majestic Dawn, Stormfront, and Platinum each added further Diamond & Pearl era Rares, drawn by Daisuke Ito, Masakazu Fukuda and Kagemaru Himeno, and Unleashed contributed a Holo Rare in the HeartGold & SoulSilver era. Plasma Storm gave it a Black & White era Rare by 5ban Graphics, and Ultra Prism and Forbidden Light added Sun & Moon era Rares, both by kawayoo. Brilliant Stars brought a Sword & Shield era Holo Rare by Oswaldo KATO. The Scarlet & Violet era's Temporal Forces added a Double Rare and an Ultra Rare Torterra ex, both illustrated by PLANETA Tsuji.
