Torkoal in the anime: Flannery's Gym ace, then Ash's own

Torkoal debuted with Lavaridge Gym Leader Flannery in "Poetry Commotion!," where it beat Ash's Pikachu and Treecko before Corphish brought it down. Ash caught a Torkoal of his own in "All Torkoal, No Play," after helping it stand up to a Steelix that had been picking on it in the Valley of Steel. It went on to fight for him at the Ever Grande Conference, defeating Tyson's Shiftry in "At the End of the Fray."

Torkoal on cards: Dragon holo to Torkoal V

Torkoal debuted in Dragon (2003) as a holo illustrated by Kagemaru Himeno, and Team Magma vs Team Aqua (2004) followed with a holo Team Magma's Torkoal by K. Hoshiba. Legend Maker, Holon Phantoms, Legends Awakened and Unleashed each printed it as a Rare between 2006 and 2010, drawn in turn by Atsuko Nishida, Mitsuhiro Arita, Midori Harada and Hideaki Hakozaki.

Cosmic Eclipse (2019) gave Torkoal a Secret Rare by Ryota Murayama, numbered above the 236-card set. Sword & Shield (2020) introduced Torkoal V as a regular holo V and a full art Ultra Rare, both illustrated by Ayaka Yoshida, and Twilight Masquerade (2024) added an Illustration Rare by Masa alongside its regular Common.
