Togepi is a Fairy-type baby Pokémon that evolves into Togetic once its happiness is high enough, and Togetic then evolves into Togekiss with a Shiny Stone. Even after hatching it stays inside its eggshell, and Pokémon Sleep notes that it rolls around in the shell while sleeping. A Togepi that hatched from the Egg from Mr. Pokémon in HeartGold and SoulSilver is unusual in knowing Extrasensory, a move normally only available as an Egg Move.
Togepi was the second Generation II Pokémon to appear in the anime after Ho-Oh, and the first future-generation Pokémon to appear there with its name already known; so far it is the only baby Pokémon revealed before its evolved form. It was also the first Generation II Pokémon to appear in a video game, showing up in Hey You, Pikachu! nearly a year before Pokémon Gold and Silver. All of Togepi's Pokédex entries during the anime's first season referred to it as an Egg Pokémon, since its real category, the Spike Ball Pokémon, was not yet known.
It is thought to be based on the concept of a baby hatchling, possibly the dokkaebi, a Korean goblin said to bring both good and bad luck, which may explain why it can have Super Luck as a Hidden Ability.
Togepi's first set card came in Neo Genesis, an Uncommon by Naoyo Kimura. Ken Sugimori drew its Wizards Black Star Promo. Dragon Frontiers later gave it a delta species (δ) Togepi δ printing illustrated by Miki Tanaka. Cosmic Eclipse combined it with two other babies for an Ultra Rare Togepi & Cleffa & Igglybuff GX illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita, and the Mega Evolution era's Ascended Heroes added a further Common.

The value behind Togepi cards sits almost entirely at the top: the ten leading cards hold 98 percent of the total, and all 20 Togepi cards carry a market value. The most valuable Togepi card is the Reverse Holo from Southern Islands in 2001, followed by the McDonald's Collection 2016 Togepi. The priced cards run from 1999 to 2026, so Togepi card value is a story of a short list of prints set against a long tail of low-value ones.
The Southern Islands Reverse Holo from 2001 leads Togepi card value by 2.9 times over the next card, the McDonald's Collection 2016 Togepi. Third is Togepi & Cleffa & Igglybuff GX from Cosmic Eclipse in 2019, an Ultra Rare, the only card in the ten leaders carrying that rarity. Fourth is the Neo Destiny Togepi from 2002, an Uncommon, and fifth is the Common from the Wizards Black Star Promos set in 1999. A reverse holo is a card printed with a holographic finish over the whole card except the artwork.
Of the twenty-five leading Togepi cards, five come from the WOTC era, three from EX, and two each from Black & White, XY, Sun & Moon and Scarlet & Violet. The newest era's leader is the Mega Evolution Togepi from Ascended Heroes in 2026, which sits 20th overall. In the top ten, vintage and modern split evenly at five each, where vintage means the WOTC era. Across the top twenty-five, modern cards number 15 and vintage cards five.
Among the ten leading Togepi cards, four are Uncommon, three are Common, one is Common (reverse holo) and one is Ultra Rare. Only one carries a special print type, the Reverse Holo at the top of the ranking. Widening to the twenty-five leaders, 13 are Common, four are Uncommon, one is Common (reverse holo) and one is Ultra Rare. The most valuable Togepi cards are mostly printed at the lower rarities.
By the value of its single leading card, Togepi ranks 111th of 1020 species with priced cards. By the combined value of its ten leaders it ranks 120th of 753. In the evolution line, Togetic ranks 129th of 1020 by its top card and Togekiss ranks 378th of 1020. Togepi holds the strongest top card of the three, so the Togepi card market rests on the baby Pokémon's own prints rather than on its evolutions.
