Tentacool is a cnidarian Pokémon whose light blue, clear body is made almost entirely of water, with a small remainder containing the organ that produces its poison. It absorbs and refracts sunlight into beam energy, and its stinging tentacles can regenerate if broken off. It evolves into Tentacruel at level 30. It has red, crystal-like eyes on its sides with a smaller one between them, and two gray tentacles hang beneath it.
Tentacool and Toedscool share identical base stats in the same distribution, and Tentacool is based on a jellyfish, possibly a box jellyfish species, with additional resemblance to 1950s B-movie alien invaders. In the Pokémon Red and Blue beta, Tentacool was originally known as Jilly. The anime episode Tentacool & Tentacruel shows it controlling Pokémon it touches with its tentacles.
In Tentacool and Tentacruel, multiple Tentacool attacked Nastina's construction site, prompting a bounty that Team Rocket tried to collect. They were surrounded by an angry group of Tentacool, one of which evolved into a giant Tentacruel and went on a rampage before being stopped by Misty.
Tentacool was introduced in Fossil, followed by two Gym Heroes printings of Misty's Tentacool, Legendary Collection, and Aquapolis in the WOTC era.
The EX through XY eras carried Hidden Legends, Legend Maker, Legends Awakened, Triumphant, and two Primal Clash printings.
The Sun & Moon era added Guardians Rising, Team Up, and Unbroken Bonds commons, followed by an Evolving Skies common in the Sword & Shield era and a 151 common by miki kudo in the Scarlet & Violet era.
