Servine is a slim, bipedal Pokémon, primarily green with a cream underside and three palmate leaves along its back and tail that photosynthesize only while clean, which is why it works hard to stay dirt-free. It hides in foliage or shadows to ambush foes before whipping them mercilessly with its vines, though its inflated pride is a genuine weakness, keeping it from cooperating with other Pokémon for long stretches. Servine evolves from Snivy at level 17 and into Serperior at level 36.
Ken Sugimori has said the Snivy line was designed to become progressively more snake-like as it evolves, and Servine is based on a vine snake, tree snake, or green snake, with some features possibly drawing on legless lizards, Asian grass lizards, or skinks such as Brachymeles. Servine first appeared on an animator's reference sheet for Pokémon the Series: Black & White alongside Dewott, Woobat, and Axew, and its English name was later confirmed on screen in The Battle Club and Tepig's Choice!.
Servine's initial Black & White release paired uncommons illustrated by Kagemaru Himeno and 5ban Graphics, and Himeno also drew its McDonald's Collection 2012 card. Boundaries Crossed added an uncommon, Legendary Treasures an uncommon and a common, and Fates Collide contributed an XY-era uncommon. The Scarlet & Violet era's Black Bolt paired a common with an Illustration rare by Jiro Sasumo, and the Mega Evolution era's Perfect Order added another common by Kurata So.
