Scrafty evolves from Scraggy at level 39 and can Mega Evolve into Mega Scrafty using a Scraftinite, introduced in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Mega Scrafty is the only Pokémon with a base stat total of 588 and is tied with Wo-Chien for the highest base Special Defense among Dark types. Scrafty can kick through concrete blocks and spits an acidic liquid to taunt opponents, folding its loose skin around itself for protection while attacking, and the anime shows it pulling that loose skin up like a hood. Mega Evolution turns its shed skins from yellowish to pure white and makes them tougher, with the top part worn over its head and shoulders like a hoodie.
Scrafty appeared in Meowth's Scrafty Tactics!, kicked out of its den by a wild Mandibuzz who had herself been displaced. It begged a wild Beartic, Scolipede, and Darmanitan for help winning back its territory, and when none obliged, it kidnapped Iris's Axew to force a negotiation. After Meowth and Ash's Scraggy distracted it and rescued Axew, Scraggy defeated Mandibuzz using the High Jump Kick it had learned from Scrafty, winning back Scrafty's den.
Scrafty is thought to reference a lizard molting its skin along with urban youth subcultures, its sagging skin trousers and hoodie evoking hip hop style and its red mohawk-like crest evoking punk, while the hood also doubles as a balaclava-like disguise. Its earliest card is a 2011 Black & White Rare illustrated by Shin Nagasawa. Destined Rivals later added a Marnie's Scrafty Uncommon illustrated by Kazumasa Yasukuni, and the Mega Evolution era's Ascended Heroes brought a Mega Scrafty ex across Double Rare, Ultra Rare, and Special Illustration Rare treatments.

The newest era's leader, Mega Scrafty ex from Ascended Heroes in 2026, ranks 1st overall. In the evolution line, Scraggy ranks 140th of 1020 by its top card. For Scrafty cards, that means the market rests on a few modern prints led by the Ascended Heroes Mega Scrafty ex, with the rest of the species' cards far behind them.
