Salazzle is a Poison/Fire type that evolves from female Salandit at level 33; male Salandit cannot evolve due to malnutrition. Introduced in Generation 7, it is a female-only species that can release flames from its palms.
Salazzle appears to be based on both the poisonous real salamander and the fire-associated mythical kind, along with whiptail lizards of the Teiidae family, some species of which are mostly or entirely female, such as the New Mexico whiptail. It may also draw partial inspiration from fire belly newts and the mo'o, a dragon-like lizard of Hawaiian myth.
Salazzle debuted in Rescuing the Unwilling! under the ownership of Lusamine. With both Salazzle and Lusamine under Nihilego's influence, Kiawe stayed behind to battle it while Ash and the others pursued Nebby; Salazzle was freed after Nihilego was defeated the following episode. Plumeria's Salazzle later competed in the Battle Royal round of the Manalo Conference in Battle Royal 151!, losing to Ilima's Eevee.
Salazzle's first set card came in Guardians Rising, illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita. SM Black Star Promos added a Salazzle GX by 5ban Graphics and a Salazzle by Shin Nagasawa. Burning Shadows gave it three Salazzle GX cards, two Ultra Rares and a Secret Rare, all illustrated by 5ban Graphics. The Mega Evolution era added Salazzle ex Double Rare and Ultra Rare cards to Perfect Order, both illustrated by 5ban Graphics, alongside an Illustration Rare in Ascended Heroes by Dsuke.

Salazzle card value is concentrated at the top: the ten leading cards hold 94 percent of the total, so a short list of prints sets the market for the species. The most valuable Salazzle card is Salazzle GX, a Secret Rare from Burning Shadows in 2017. All 21 Salazzle cards carry a market value, and the priced cards run from 2017 to 2026.
Burning Shadows' Salazzle GX Secret Rare leads Salazzle card value by 2.5 times over the next card, the Salazzle Promo from SM Black Star Promos in 2017. Third is another Burning Shadows card, a Salazzle GX Ultra Rare, and fourth is a Salazzle GX Promo from SM Black Star Promos. Fifth is the Illustration rare from Ascended Heroes in 2026. A Secret Rare is a card numbered past the printed set count, and an illustration rare is a card whose artwork spreads across the frame.
Of the twenty-five leading Salazzle cards, 12 come from the Sun & Moon era, 4 from Mega Evolution, 3 from Sword & Shield and 2 from Scarlet & Violet. The newest era's leader is the Illustration rare from Ascended Heroes in 2026, 5th overall. Every one of the ten leaders and 21 of the twenty-five are modern, with none from the vintage WOTC era.
Among the ten leading Salazzle cards, Ultra Rare is the most common printed rarity with 3 cards, followed by Promo with 2. Double rare, Holo Rare, Illustration rare, Rare and Secret Rare appear once each. Widening to the leading twenty-five, Rare and Uncommon each account for 6 cards, Ultra Rare for 3 and Promo for 2, with Double rare, Holo Rare, Illustration rare and Secret Rare at one apiece.
By the value of its single leading card, Salazzle ranks 630th of 1020 species with priced cards, and by the combined value of its ten leaders it ranks 501st of 753. In the evolution line, Salandit ranks 989th of 1020 by its top card. For Salazzle cards, that places the market in the middle of the field, with the line's value resting on Salazzle itself.
