Pidgey evolves into Pidgeotto at level 18, and Pidgeotto becomes Pidgeot at level 36. It has two standard abilities, Keen Eye (its accuracy cannot be lowered) and Tangled Feet (it becomes harder to hit while confused), plus the hidden ability Big Pecks, which protects its Defense from being lowered. It has been a common sight on the early routes of Kanto since the original games.
Pidgey appears in the anime's first episode, "Pokémon - I Choose You!", as the first wild Pokémon Ash tries to catch; it gets away because his new Pikachu refuses to battle for him. In "Pallet Party Panic", a flock of Pidgey in Viridian Forest is harassed by Spearow led by a Fearow, the same bird Ash angered on his first day. Ash's Pidgeotto evolves into Pidgeot defending them, and Ash releases it to guard the flock. In "Fly Me to the Moon", a Pidgey nicknamed Orville learns to fly with help from Wilbur, guardian of Pudgy Pidgey Isle, where nearly all the other Pidgey have grown too heavy to fly.
Pidgey's first card is Base Set #57 from January 1999, a Common by Ken Sugimori whose art returned in Base Set 2 and Legendary Collection. Gym Challenge (2000) printed two different Koga's Pidgey cards, an Uncommon by Atsuko Nishida and a Common by Sugimori. Holon Phantoms (2006) printed Pidgey δ, a Delta Species card: that EX-era mechanic gave Pokémon unusual types, and this Pidgey, drawn by Mitsuhiro Arita, is a Lightning type rather than Colorless.
In the Scarlet & Violet era, Obsidian Flames (2023) gave Pidgey an Illustration Rare by Jerky, and Paldean Fates (2024) a Shiny Rare by sowsow.

Ranked by each card’s main print in near-mint raw condition. 1st Edition, Shadowless and other versions are priced on each card’s page. The table updates live.
The most valuable Pidgey card is the Common from POP Series 4 (2006), which tops the Pidgey card value ranking ahead of an illustration rare from Obsidian Flames (2023). All 21 Pidgey cards carry a market value, spanning 1999 to 2024, and the ten leading cards hold 94 percent of the total value. That makes the most valuable Pidgey cards a short list, with the rest of the species adding very little to the whole.
POP Series 4 leads Pidgey card value by 2.8 times over the next card, the Obsidian Flames illustration rare, a modern card type that carries its own full-art style. Third is the Common from Expedition Base Set (2002), followed by the Shiny rare from Paldean Fates (2024) and the Common from XY trainer Kit (Wigglytuff) (2014). Koga's Pidgey from Gym Challenge (2000) also sits in the ten leaders, both as an Uncommon and as a Common.
Of the twenty-five leading Pidgey cards, 6 come from WOTC, 4 from Scarlet & Violet, 3 from EX, 3 from XY, and 2 each from HeartGold & SoulSilver and Sun & Moon. Scarlet & Violet's best, the Obsidian Flames (2023) card, ranks 2nd overall. Vintage means the WOTC era and modern is every later era. The top ten split evenly, 5 vintage and 5 modern, while the top twenty-five lean modern with 15 modern cards to 6 vintage.
Rarity among the ten leading Pidgey cards is plain: 7 are Commons, with 1 Illustration rare, 1 Shiny rare and 1 Uncommon. Widen to the twenty-five leaders and Commons number 18, alongside the same single Illustration rare, Shiny rare and Uncommon. Pidgey card value, then, rests mostly on ordinary printed rarities, with only a pair of chase-style prints from the Scarlet & Violet era breaking the pattern.
By the value of its single leading card, Pidgey ranks 423rd of 1020 species with priced cards, and by the combined value of its ten leaders it ranks 376th of 753. Within the evolution line, Pidgeot ranks 147th of 1020 by top card and Pidgeotto 620th, so Pidgeot's best card outranks Pidgey's own. Pidgey's market sits in the middle of the field, built on a tight group of leaders rather than on one standout card.
