Petilil's three head leaves regrow if they fall off and can be pruned into a fine round shape, and its crescent-shaped face has no visible nose or mouth. Petilil and Cottonee are seen as counterparts, sharing a base stat total of 280 and a single-stone evolution, though Petilil is exclusive to different game versions and, according to Ken Sugimori, its line was originally meant as a three-stage evolution.
Petilil made her animated series debut in Clash of the Connoisseurs!, where Ricard Nouveau thought she would suit Marigold but Cilan disagreed. In Unrest at the Nursery!, Layla was looking after a Petilil.
Petilil's first card was a 2011 Black & White Common illustrated by Kagemaru Himeno, followed by Emerging Powers and Noble Victories Commons. Evolving Skies added an illustration by Mika Pikazo, and Black Bolt closed the run with a Common and an Illustration Rare by Tika Matsuno in 2025.

Petilil card value is concentrated almost entirely at the top: the ten leading cards hold 99 percent of the total value across the species, and every one of the 12 Petilil cards carries a market value. The most valuable Petilil card is the Illustration rare from Black Bolt, printed in 2025. The priced Petilil cards run from 2011 to 2025, so the whole market sits in the modern eras.
The Black Bolt Illustration rare from 2025 leads Petilil card value by 52.4 times over the next card. That second card is the Uncommon from Boundaries Crossed, printed in 2012. Behind it come three Commons from 2011: Black & White, Noble Victories and Emerging Powers. An Illustration rare is a full-art card whose artwork extends across the card, and the cards behind it are standard prints from the early Black & White sets.
The most valuable Petilil cards come from five eras. Of the twenty-five leading cards, 4 are from Black & White, 3 from Sword & Shield, 3 from Scarlet & Violet, 1 from XY and 1 from Sun & Moon. The newest era's leader is the Black Bolt Illustration rare from 2025, which ranks 1st overall. Vintage here means the WOTC era, and every leading Petilil card is modern: all 10 in the top ten and 12 in the top twenty-five.
Common is the printed rarity that dominates the leading Petilil cards. Of the top ten, 8 are Commons, 1 is an Illustration rare and 1 is an Uncommon. Widening to the leading twenty-five, the count is 10 Commons, 1 Illustration rare and 1 Uncommon. The Illustration rare from Black Bolt is the single card in the group printed above the Uncommon and Common rarities.
Among 1020 species with priced cards, Petilil ranks 560th by the value of its single leading card. By the combined value of its ten leaders it ranks 594th of 753 species. Its evolution line has one other member, Lilligant, whose leading card ranks 339th of 1020. Taken together, the Petilil card market rests on one modern Illustration rare, while the rest of the species is made up of Common and Uncommon prints from the Black & White through Scarlet & Violet years.
