Passimian is a Generation 7 Fighting type based on the black-and-white ruffed lemur, chosen for lemurs' cooperative group behavior in searching for food, and may also draw on American football quarterbacks. It carries a large berry and often has leaves stuck to its body with saliva. It wears a pale green helmet shaped like half a coconut shell, and its name likely blends pass and simian. It does not evolve.
Passimian is treated as a counterpart to Oranguru: both are primate Pokémon sharing a base stat total and a single Pokédex page in Sun and Moon and Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, though Passimian is exclusive to Sun, Ultra Sun, Sword, and Violet while Oranguru appears in the paired versions, an arrangement also seen with Tauros and Miltank.
Naoki Saito drew both its Sun and Moon Uncommon and its SM Black Star promo. It later reached Holo Rare status in the Silver Tempest Trainer Gallery, illustrated by nagimiso.
