Mareanie is a purple, stalk-bodied Pokémon topped with a starfish-like ring of spiny tentacles. It can regenerate any lost body part overnight except its head, and its discarded limbs taste too bitter and astringent to be eaten. It evolves into Toxapex at level 38.
It preys on Corsola much like its real-world basis, the crown-of-thorns starfish, preys on coral polyps, and it is unusual in that it will attack a wild Corsola instead of the player when encountered as an SOS Battle ally called in by that same Corsola.
Mareanie's first card was a Sun and Moon base set Common illustrated by match, followed by a Guardians Rising Uncommon from Shin Nagasawa. Lost Thunder gave it two separate Common prints by Sanosuke Sakuma and Aya Kusube, and Unified Minds added a Saya Tsuruta illustration. Darkness Ablaze and Silver Tempest continued its run with further Commons by Tomokazu Komiya and Yuu Nishida.

Silver Tempest's Common, illustrated by Yuu Nishida.
Mareanie evolves into Toxapex starting at level 38.
It is based on the crown-of-thorns starfish, a venomous starfish that preys on coral, mirroring Mareanie's habit of eating Corsola.
