Magneton debuted in Pokémon Red and Blue as three Magnemite held together by magnetism. Magnemite evolves into it at level 30, and Magneton evolves into Magnezone, a Generation IV addition, when leveled up in a special magnetic field or exposed to a Thunder Stone. It was a pure Electric type until Gold and Silver introduced the Steel type and made it Electric and Steel. It stands 1.0 meter tall and weighs 60.0 kilograms.
Its abilities are Magnet Pull, which stops Steel-type opponents from escaping, and Sturdy, which lets it survive a one-hit knockout from full HP; its hidden ability, Analytic, powers up its move when it attacks last.
Magneton's first card is Base Set #9 (1999), one of the set's holo rares, illustrated by Keiji Kinebuchi. Fossil followed later in 1999 with a Ken Sugimori Magneton, and 2000 brought Dark Magneton in Team Rocket and a holo Lt. Surge's Magneton in Gym Heroes. Team Rocket's Dark Pokémon are Team Rocket-raised versions of a species rather than Dark types, and Dark Magneton is still an Electric Pokémon. Skyridge (2003) printed two different Magneton cards, one by Hajime Kusajima and one by Kouki Saitou, each as a regular rare and an H-numbered holo.
Later eras mostly used Magneton as a Rare or Uncommon: the EX era printed it nine times, including Holon's Magneton in Delta Species (2005), and the Sun & Moon era five times, among them a Shiny rare in Hidden Fates' Shiny Vault (2019). Ken Sugimori holds the most Magneton credits in our catalog (5), and no other illustrator has more than three.
Fifteen of Magneton's 46 printings come from the Wizards of the Coast era, more than any other era in our catalog, with the EX era (9) next. Magneton has not had an EX, GX, V or ex card of its own, so the cards collectors single out are its early holos, Dark Magneton and Lt. Surge's Magneton, plus the Shiny Vault printing.

Ranked by each card’s main print in near-mint raw condition. 1st Edition, Shadowless and other versions are priced on each card’s page. The table updates live.
The most valuable Magneton card is the Holo Rare from Skyridge, printed in 2003. All 46 Magneton cards carry a market value, spanning 1999 to 2025, and the ten leading cards hold 88 percent of the total value. That makes Magneton card value a top-heavy affair, with the ten leaders accounting for nearly all of what the species is worth.
Skyridge's Holo Rare leads Magneton card value by 1.5 times over the next card, the Aquapolis Holo Rare from 2003. Third is Dark Magneton, a Holo Rare from Team Rocket in 2000, followed by a second Skyridge Holo Rare. Two plain Rare cards from Skyridge sit at 5th and 6th. Dark Magneton is a Holo Rare in the Team Rocket set rather than a standard Magneton, so it stands apart from the Skyridge and Aquapolis cards around it.
All ten of the most valuable Magneton cards come from the WOTC era, which is what vintage means here. Widen the view to the twenty-five leaders and the split is 15 WOTC, 6 EX, 2 Scarlet & Violet, 1 XY and 1 Sun & Moon, or 15 vintage against 10 modern. The newest era's leader is the Mega Evolution set's Magneton from 2025, in 42nd place overall.
Among the ten leading Magneton cards, 8 are Holo Rare and 2 are Rare. Across the twenty-five leaders the mix is 10 Holo Rare, 10 Rare, 2 Promo, 2 Uncommon and 1 Shiny rare. Holo Rare cards fill most of the top ten, while the wider group of Magneton cards brings in plain Rare, Promo and Uncommon prints alongside them.
Magneton ranks 136th of 1020 species with priced cards by the value of its single leading card, and 109th of 753 by the combined value of its ten leaders. In its evolution line, Magnezone sits 273rd of 1020 and Magnemite 398th of 1020 by top card. Magneton leads its own line on both measures, so the market for Magneton cards sits well above its pre-evolution and evolution, resting on a few early 2000s holos.
