Koffing is a pure Poison type that evolves into Weezing at level 35. It floats, and its Levitate ability makes it immune to Ground type moves. Sword and Shield gave it a second option, Neutralizing Gas, which cancels the abilities of every other Pokémon on the field while it is out; Stench is its hidden ability.
In Red and Blue, Koga, the Fuchsia City Gym Leader, uses two Koffing alongside Muk and Weezing.
James's Koffing is the first Pokémon he is known to have owned; the English dub calls it a Christmas gift. It debuted in Pokémon Emergency!, laying down a Smokescreen while Jessie's Ekans wrecked the computers at the Viridian City Pokémon Center. Koffing and Ekans evolved together into Weezing and Arbok in Dig Those Diglett!, only to be swamped by wild Diglett and Dugtrio anyway. Early in the Hoenn series, in A Poached Ego!, James and Jessie left Weezing and Arbok in Petalburg Woods to protect a herd of wild Koffing and Ekans.
Koffing's first English card is Base Set #51 from January 1999, illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita. Gym Challenge (2000) printed two Koga's Koffing cards, an uncommon and a common, both drawn by Ken Sugimori.
Most of its printings are commons, which makes a few modern cards stand out: a Cosmic Eclipse (2019) Koffing by HYOGONOSUKE, numbered past the main set as a Secret Rare, and a shiny Koffing in the Shining Fates Shiny Vault (2021). Destined Rivals (2025) added Team Rocket's Koffing among its Team Rocket's Pokémon cards.

James's. It debuted in Pokémon Emergency!, the second episode, and evolved into Weezing in Dig Those Diglett!
Neutralizing Gas cancels the abilities of every other Pokémon on the field while Koffing is in battle. It was added in Sword and Shield as an alternative to Levitate.

Koffing cards span the years 1999 to 2025, and the most valuable Koffing card is the Secret Rare from Cosmic Eclipse in 2019. All 29 of the 29 Koffing cards carry a market value, and the ten leading cards hold 91 percent of the total, so the top of the list sets the Koffing card value for the whole species, with the rest of the cards sharing only a small slice.
The Cosmic Eclipse Secret Rare from 2019 leads the most valuable Koffing cards by 4.3 times over the next card, the Shiny rare from the Shining Fates Shiny Vault in 2021. Third is the Common from Expedition Base Set, printed in 2002. Fourth and fifth are Commons from Delta Species and Deoxys, both from 2005. Koga's Koffing from Gym Challenge, an Uncommon from 2000, sits 6th.
Koffing cards in the top twenty-five come from nine eras. The WOTC era supplies five of them and the EX era four, while Sun & Moon and Sword & Shield give three each. The newest leader is the Journey Together Koffing from 2025, which sits 24th overall. Vintage, meaning the WOTC era, holds four of the top ten and five of the top twenty-five, while modern cards make up six of the top ten and twenty of the top twenty-five.
Among the ten leading Koffing cards, seven are Commons, with one Secret Rare, one Shiny rare and one Uncommon. Widening to the leading twenty-five, the count is twenty Commons, three Uncommons, one Secret Rare and one Shiny rare. No Holo Rare, 1st Edition or Shadowless print appears in the ten leaders. Koffing cards of this value are overwhelmingly Commons, led by one Secret Rare.
Ranked by the value of its single leading card, Koffing places 375th of 1020 species with priced cards. By the combined value of its ten leaders it places 396th of 753. Weezing, the only other member of the evolution line, ranks 284th of 1020 by its top card, ahead of Koffing. The Koffing card market sits in the middle of the field, built on one Secret Rare and a long run of Commons.
