Kecleon is a bipedal, reptilian Pokémon usually green in color, with a red zigzag stripe around its midsection that never changes even as the rest of its body shifts color at will. It uses this camouflage to sneak up on prey before ensnaring it with its long pink tongue, and it does not evolve. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team it is the hardest Pokémon to recruit, needing a player level of 90 or higher and a held Friend Bow before it has even a slim chance of joining.
Two Kecleon, nicknamed Reddy and Greeny, debuted under Madison and Alexa in The Kecleon Caper, foiling a Team Rocket theft attempt. Harrison used a Kecleon against Ash's Pikachu in the Silver Conference in Playing with Fire and Johto Photo Finish, ultimately losing to Thunderbolt, and Kecleon was the first Pokémon in the animated series to officially demonstrate an Ability.
Kecleon debuted in Sandstorm in 2003, illustrated by Kagemaru Himeno, followed by Legend Maker, Secret Wonders and Rising Rivals. It continued through Plasma Freeze, then three Sun & Moon era printings across Celestial Storm and Lost Thunder, before Chilling Reign and the Scarlet & Violet era's Surging Sparks, including an illustration rare by Mori Yuu, and Journey Together.
