Kabuto is the Shellfish Pokémon, a flat, horseshoe crab-like arthropod under a brown shell, with two small eyes on top and a second pair of glowing red eyes beside its four short legs underneath. Believed extinct, isolated populations have remained unchanged for 300 million years.
Kabuto evolves into Kabutops at level 40, and shares its category name with Blastoise.
Two Kabuto debuted in Attack of the Prehistoric Pokémon, attacking Ash and Team Rocket until scared off by an Aerodactyl. In Dealing With Defensive Types, a Kabuto caught Team Rocket stealing food from the Canalave Gym kitchen and used Aqua Jet to send them blasting off.
Kabuto's earliest card is the 1999 Fossil Common illustrated by Ken Sugimori, with Neo Discovery adding a Common by Yuka Morii and Skyridge an Uncommon by Yukiko Baba. Holon Phantoms later introduced a delta species Common by Hajime Kusajima.
The 2023 151 set carried an Uncommon by Souichirou Gunjima.

Ranked by each card’s main print in near-mint raw condition. 1st Edition, Shadowless and other versions are priced on each card’s page. The table updates live.
The cards span 1999 to 2023, and the most valuable Kabuto card is the Uncommon from Skyridge, printed in 2003. All 14 Kabuto cards carry a market value, and the ten leading cards hold 98 percent of the total, so the Kabuto card value picture is set almost entirely by that group. The Skyridge Kabuto sits ahead of a Skyridge Buried Fossil, and the next places go to cards from Sandstorm, Holon Phantoms and Neo Discovery.
The Skyridge Kabuto from 2003 leads the most valuable Kabuto cards by 1.4 times over the next card, the Buried Fossil from the same set and year, a Common. Third is the Sandstorm Kabuto from 2003, an Uncommon, followed by the Holon Phantoms Kabuto δ from 2006, a Common. Fifth is the Neo Discovery Kabuto from 2001, also a Common. Both of the top two come from Skyridge.
Of the twenty-five leading cards, 5 come from WOTC, 4 from EX, 2 from Diamond & Pearl, and 1 each from XY, Sun & Moon and Scarlet & Violet. The newest era's leader is the Kabuto from 151 in 2023, which sits 14th overall. Vintage here means the WOTC era, and modern is every later era. The top ten splits 5 vintage and 5 modern, while the top twenty-five holds 5 vintage and 9 modern.
Among the ten leading Kabuto cards, 6 are Common and 4 are Uncommon. Widening to the leading twenty-five, the count is 7 Common and 7 Uncommon. No holo, reverse holo or 1st Edition print appears among the printed rarities and print types in either group, so Kabuto cards at the top of the ranking are standard Common and Uncommon prints.
By the value of its single leading card, Kabuto ranks 443rd of 1020 species with priced cards. By the combined value of its ten leaders, it ranks 393rd of 753. In the evolution line, Kabutops ranks 37th of 1020 by its top card, well ahead of Kabuto. Kabuto cards therefore form a market of modest top-card value that is concentrated in a small group of Common and Uncommon prints.
