Jynx is the Human Shape Pokémon, a dual Ice and Psychic type from Generation I. Generation II introduced its pre-evolution, Smoochum, which evolves into Jynx starting at level 30. Its standard abilities are Oblivious and Forewarn, with Dry Skin as a hidden ability, and the species is female only.
In Pokémon Red and Blue, Jynx is one of the five Pokémon used by Elite Four member Lorelei, alongside Dewgong, Cloyster, Slowbro and Lapras.
Jynx originally had a black face. After criticism in 2000 that the design echoed racist caricatures, its face was recolored purple, so early cards such as Base Set #31 show the original design.
In the anime, multiple Jynx debuted in the holiday episode "Holiday Hi-Jynx" as workers at Santa Claus's workshop, with Ash and his friends helping a lost one get home. The purple redesign first appeared in the animated series in "Mean With Envy" and "Pacifidlog Jam," when a Coordinator named Erica entered her Jynx in the Pacifidlog Town Pokémon Contest.
Jynx's first English card is Base Set #31, a 1999 Uncommon illustrated by Ken Sugimori, who drew five of its cards. The Gym sets of 2000 gave it two Sabrina's Jynx cards, in Gym Heroes (Sugimori) and Gym Challenge (Atsuko Nishida), and Dragon Frontiers (2006) printed Jynx δ, a Delta Species card that plays as a Fire type.
The modern highlights are a Holo Rare in the Silver Tempest Trainer Gallery (2022), illustrated by HYOGONOSUKE, and Jynx ex from 151 (2023), whose #191 Ultra Rare version is by Ayaka Yoshida. The Mega Evolution era has added Jynx cards as well, including a Common in Pitch Black (2026).

The value of Jynx cards is concentrated: the ten leading cards hold 90 percent of the total, so a short list sets the market for the species. The most valuable Jynx card is the Rare from Aquapolis, printed in 2003. All 27 Jynx cards carry a market value, and the priced cards run from 1999 to 2026. Three more Wizards-era cards follow the Aquapolis Jynx, and the Jynx ex from 151 is the first modern card in the ranking.
The Aquapolis Rare from 2003 leads Jynx card value by 2.6 times over the next card, the Uncommon from Expedition Base Set in 2002. Third is the Rare from Legendary Collection (2002), then the Uncommon from Neo Revelation (2001). The Jynx ex from 151 (2023) is an Ultra Rare and ranks 5th. The Sabrina's Jynx cards from Gym Heroes and Gym Challenge, both 2000, are Uncommons and rank 6th and 9th.
The Wizards era supplies 8 of the 25 leading Jynx cards, the most of any era, followed by 4 from Sun & Moon, 3 from Sword & Shield and 3 from Scarlet & Violet. Among the ten most valuable Jynx cards, 6 are vintage and 4 are modern, where vintage means the WOTC era and modern is every later era. Across the leading 25 the split is 17 modern and 8 vintage. The newest era's leader is the Mega Evolution Jynx from 2025, 25th overall.
Among the ten most valuable Jynx cards, 4 are Rare, 4 are Uncommon, 1 is Holo Rare and 1 is Ultra Rare. Widening to the leading 25, 10 are Uncommon, 7 are Rare and 5 are Common, alongside one Double rare, one Holo Rare and one Ultra Rare. Printed rarities of Uncommon and Rare fill most of the leading list, and the single Holo Rare and the single Ultra Rare both sit in the top ten.
By the value of its single leading card, Jynx ranks 406th of 1020 species with priced cards. By the combined value of its ten leaders it ranks 364th of 753. In its evolution line, Smoochum ranks 396th of 1020 by top card. Jynx card value rests on a small group of older Uncommon and Rare prints, and its standing among species is in the middle of the field on both measures.
