Hariyama is a large, bulky humanoid Pokémon modeled after a sumo wrestler, with narrow eyes, rounded ears, and dark blue hair that grows across its brow, around a short triangular head crest, and down its back into a long ponytail. Its body is mostly muscle rather than fat, which becomes as hard as stone when tensed, letting it send trucks flying and break telephone poles when it stomps the ground to build power, and it enjoys matching strength against other large-bodied Pokémon.
Each of Hariyama's base stats is exactly double those of Makuhita, and it also has a higher catch rate than its pre-evolution.
Hariyama seems to be based on a sumo wrestler, or rikishi, with its bald head and long hair resembling a chonmage hairstyle before it is tied into a topknot, and its two-toed feet resembling geta or zori wooden sandals. The square flaps around its midsection resemble the sagari strings that hang off a wrestler's mawashi belt, and its large hands, category, and ability to learn Arm Thrust may reference harite, an open-hand strike used in sumo.
Hariyama's earliest cards were two 2003 Ruby & Sapphire printings, an Uncommon by Ken Sugimori and a Holo Rare by Naoyo Kimura. Deoxys added a Hariyama ex illustrated by Ryo Ueda, and Delta Species gave it a further Uncommon by Hisao Nakamura. The Mega Evolution set added a Rare illustrated by GOSSAN, and Hitoshi Ariga drew its Fusion Strike card.

Ranked by each card’s main print in near-mint raw condition. 1st Edition, Shadowless and other versions are priced on each card’s page. The table updates live.
Hariyama cards span 2003 to 2025, and the most valuable Hariyama card is Hariyama ex from Deoxys, a 2005 Rare. All 15 Hariyama cards carry a market value, and the ten leading cards hold 99 percent of the total, so Hariyama card value sits almost entirely in a short list of prints. The rest of the species adds very little to the picture.
Hariyama ex from Deoxys (2005) leads Hariyama card value by 1.9 times over the next card, the Holo Rare Hariyama from Ruby & Sapphire (2003). A holo has a foil-treated card image, and the ex card is printed as a plain Rare. Third is the Rare Hariyama from Undaunted (2010), followed by two Uncommon prints, the Delta Species Hariyama and the Emerald Hariyama, both from 2005.
The EX era supplies 5 of the twenty-five leading Hariyama cards, with 2 each from Diamond & Pearl and Sword & Shield and one each from HeartGold & SoulSilver, Black & White, XY and Sun & Moon. Scarlet & Violet and Mega Evolution each add one as well. The newest era's leader is the Hariyama from Mega Evolution (2025), 11th overall. All ten leaders and all fifteen of the twenty-five leading cards are modern, with none from the WOTC era that defines vintage.
The ten most valuable Hariyama cards are five Rares, four Uncommons and one Holo Rare. Widening to the leading twenty-five, the count is six Rares, six Uncommons and three Holo Rares. Uncommons make up a large share of the leaders, and the single Holo Rare in the top ten is the Ruby & Sapphire card from 2003.
By the value of its single leading card, Hariyama ranks 440th of 1020 species with priced cards. By the combined value of its ten leaders it ranks 419th of 753. Its only other line member, Makuhita, ranks 959th of 1020 by top card. Hariyama cards are therefore a mid-table market built on a leading card and a handful of older prints, with the pre-evolution well below it.
