Grimer is the Sludge Pokémon, a pure Poison type introduced in Generation I. Its standard abilities are Stench and Sticky Hold, with Poison Touch as its hidden ability. It stands 0.9 meters tall, weighs 30 kilograms, and evolves into Muk at level 38.
Pokémon Sun and Moon introduced Alolan Grimer, a Poison and Dark type brought to Alola to deal with the region's waste. It eats solid garbage rather than sludge, and that diet changed its body: it turns green and forms crystallized toxins that look like teeth. Because it stores its toxins inside, it lacks the Kantonian form's foul smell. It also has its own abilities, and it evolves into Alolan Muk at the same level, 38.
Grimer's first English card is Fossil #48 from October 1999, illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita, whose artwork returned in Legendary Collection in 2002. Our catalog lists 25 Grimer printings across 24 sets spanning nine eras, from WOTC through Scarlet & Violet, and all 25 are Commons.
Several Grimer cards carry a Trainer's name. Gym Challenge's Koga's Grimer (2000) ties the card to Koga, the Fuchsia City Gym Leader who specializes in Poison types and later joins the Johto Elite Four. Double Crisis printed a Team Aqua's Grimer (2015), and Destined Rivals printed a Team Rocket's Grimer (2025). Ken Sugimori has the most Grimer illustration credits, with three.
Grimer debuted in a flashback in Pokémon Scent-sation!, where Celadon City Gym Leader Erika recalls getting lost as a child and running into a Grimer until a Gloom chased it away. In Pokémon Journeys, Goh caught a Grimer during the Pokémon Orienteering competition in Dreams Are Made of These!, and it went on to appear in later episodes of that series. Alolan Grimer debuted in a flashback in Turning Heads and Training Hard!, owned by a Trainer named Tupp.

The most valuable Grimer card is the Aquapolis Grimer from 2003, a Common that tops the Grimer value ranking. All 25 Grimer cards carry a market value, with prints spanning 1999 to 2025. The ten leading cards hold 93 percent of the total value, so a short list of cards sets the Grimer card value picture for the whole species.
The Aquapolis Grimer from 2003 leads Grimer card value by 7.7 times over the next card, the Team Rocket Returns Grimer from 2004. Dragon from 2003 holds third, and the Team Rocket Grimer from 2000 is fourth. Every one of these is printed as a Common, so the most valuable Grimer cards in the leading group are regular Common prints from Wizards-era and EX-era sets rather than chase rarities.
Sun & Moon supplies six of the twenty-five leading Grimer cards, WOTC five, and EX and Scarlet & Violet three each. The newest era's leader is the Scarlet & Violet Grimer from 2023, which sits 19th overall. Vintage, meaning the WOTC era, holds five of the top ten and five of the top twenty-five, while modern cards, every later era, hold five of the top ten and twenty of the top twenty-five.
Grimer ranks 449th of 1020 species with priced cards by the value of its single leading card, and 464th of 753 by the combined value of its ten leaders. Muk, the other member of the line, ranks 114th of 1020 by its top card, well ahead of Grimer. The Grimer card market is built on one dominant Aquapolis Common supported by a close group of other Commons, with the leaders concentrated in a few early sets.
