Foongus is a Grass and Poison type that evolves into Amoonguss at level 39. Its cap resembles a Poke Ball, a pattern it uses to lure people and Pokémon before releasing poisonous spores in defense; a theory even suggests the modern Poke Ball design was inspired by Foongus. It shares its Mushroom Pokémon category, its Spore move, and its Effect Spore Ability with Paras, Parasect, Shroomish, and Breloom.
Multiple Foongus debuted in Facing Fear with Eyes Wide Open!, releasing poisonous spores on Ash and his friends' Pokémon after Scraggy used Headbutt on one of them. A wild Foongus later attacked Dawn after she got too close to it on a deserted island in Expedition to Onix Island!.
Foongus's first card was a 2011 Noble Victories Common illustrated by match, followed by a Next Destinies Common from Masakazu Fukuda. Later illustrators include Mitsuhiro Arita on Plasma Storm, Ken Sugimori on Unified Minds, and a 2025 Black Bolt release pairing a Common by Kurata So with an Illustration Rare by buchi.
