Fletchinder is an orange and black bird with a sharp black beak, yellow mask-like eye markings, and a flame sac in its belly. It hunts by igniting tall grass and swooping on fleeing Bug type prey, cooking its catch before eating it, and its tail feathers resemble arrow fletching with a pair of white V-shaped markings near the tip.
It evolves from Fletchling at level 17 and into Talonflame at level 35. Fletchinder was the first Pokémon, and the only one in Generation VI, to have an English name longer than ten letters, since earlier generations capped names at ten characters, as seen in the shortening of gator to gatr in Feraligatr's name.
Fletchinder shares its category with Simisear, both known as the Ember Pokémon, while the Japanese category is also shared with Charcadet as the Sparks Pokémon. It appears to be a cross between a Japanese robin and a waxwing, with its Fire typing possibly referencing the flame robin.
Ash's own Fletchling evolved into a Fletchinder in Battles in the Sky, later evolving again into a Talonflame in A Legendary Photo Op. Separately, Nico's Fletchinder appeared in Breaking Titles at the Chateau, defeating Farrell's Dusknoir in a hard-fought Battle Chateau match.
Fletchinder's earliest card is the 2014 XY Uncommon illustrated by 5ban Graphics, who also illustrated the following Flashfire printing. Naoyo Kimura and Shigenori Negishi illustrated later XY era Uncommons in Roaring Skies and Steam Siege, and kawayoo contributed both the SM Trainer Kit and Guardians Rising Uncommons.
Paldea Evolved introduced an Illustration rare by Atsushi Furusawa alongside a standard Uncommon, and the Mega Evolution era Perfect Order set carried a Common by Sumiyoshi Kizuki.
