Dhelmise is a Ghost/Grass type made up of an anchor and a ship's wheel held together by a mass of green seaweed, which forms its true body. It does not evolve. The anchor is rusty brown mottled with blackish spots, while the ship's wheel is lavender with a yellow inner rim and six spokes.
Its design is based on a cluster of seaweed holding together the anchor and helm of a wrecked ship, drawing on ghost ship legends such as the Flying Dutchman as well as literary captains like Ahab from Moby-Dick. Dhelmise is the only Pokémon with a base stat total of 517, and despite being gender unknown it could learn the useless move Attract in Generation VII, which it lost from Generation VIII on. Dhelmise is also the only Pokémon found in hidden encounters on the Isle of Armor that does not appear in the Isle of Armor Pokédex.
Dhelmise was introduced in Balloons, Brionne, and Belligerence!, where it was protecting a Mystic Water that Kanoa was trying to get for Ida. It was eventually defeated by Lana's Popplio, who used Hydro Vortex.
The Sun & Moon era brought a Guardians Rising Rare, Celestial Storm, Unified Minds, and Cosmic Eclipse printings, and an SM Black Star Promo by Kouki Saitou.
The Sword & Shield era brought Dhelmise V cards in the Sword & Shield set, a Vivid Voltage Uncommon, and Shining Fates V and VMAX Ultra Rares illustrated by Eske Yoshinob and PLANETA Mochizuki.
The Scarlet & Violet era added Temporal Forces, Surging Sparks, and Journey Together printings, and the Mega Evolution era brought an MEP Black Star Promo, a Mega Evolution common, and Pitch Black Uncommon and illustration rare printings.
