Carracosta evolves from Tirtouga at level 37 and is considered extinct, having lived in the sea millions of years ago. Its powerful flippers can slap open a hole in a tanker, and its extremely strong jaws let it devour steel frames and rocks alongside its usual prey.
Carracosta and Tirtouga are the only Fossil Pokémon with Rock as a secondary rather than primary type.
Multiple Carracosta debuted in a flashback in A Restoration Confrontation! Part 1, defending a young Ferris and his Tirtouga from attacking Archen. The Tirtouga that Ferris befriended was later forcibly revived and evolved into a Carracosta by Dr. Zager in the following episode.

The Sun and Moon era brought a Carracosta GX promo by PLANETA Tsuji and a Unified Minds Uncommon by Kouki Saitou. The Scarlet and Violet era then added Rares in Stellar Crown and Black Bolt, the latter set also including an Illustration rare by Takeshi Nakamura.

The value of Carracosta cards is spread across a small group, and the most valuable Carracosta card is the Illustration rare from Black Bolt, printed in 2025. It sits 2.1 times ahead of the next card. All 7 of the Carracosta cards carry a market value, and they span the years 2011 to 2025. Those figures shape the Carracosta card value ranking, which a single recent print tops.
The Black Bolt Illustration rare from 2025 leads the most valuable Carracosta cards, 2.1 times ahead of the Noble Victories Rare from 2011 in second. Third is Carracosta GX from the SM Black Star Promos set in 2017, a Promo. Fourth is the Plasma Blast Rare from 2013, and fifth is the Unified Minds Uncommon from 2019. An illustration rare is a card whose artwork extends across much of the card, while a Rare is a standard rarity tier.
Carracosta cards in the top 25 come from three eras: 3 from Scarlet & Violet, 2 from Black & White and 2 from Sun & Moon. The newest era's leader is the Black Bolt Illustration rare from 2025, which is 1st overall. Vintage here means the WOTC era and modern is every later era. The top ten holds 7 modern cards, and the top 25 holds the same 7 modern cards.
Among the ten leading Carracosta cards, the printed rarities are 2 Holo Rare, 2 Rare, 1 Illustration rare, 1 Promo and 1 Uncommon. Widening to the top 25 gives the same counts, since the same seven cards fill both lists. That puts Black Bolt and Stellar Crown holos alongside the Noble Victories and Plasma Blast Rares, the SM Black Star Promos card and the Unified Minds Uncommon.
Among the 1020 species with priced cards, Carracosta ranks 685th by the value of its single leading card. Tirtouga, the only other member of the evolution line, ranks 469th of 1020 by the same measure, so the earlier stage has the higher-valued top card. Carracosta cards therefore sit in the lower half of the species ranking, with one recent print carrying the line's value.
